Windows 11
How to Close a Suspicious Warning in Microsoft Edge on Windows 11
Also available for: macOS
What you need: A Windows 11 computer with a suspicious warning open in Microsoft Edge.
Before you begin: Leave the warning alone: do not click it, call its phone number, or enter information. These steps close every Microsoft Edge window. Anything you have typed on a page but have not saved may be lost.
- Hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys. While holding them, press Esc, then release all three keys. A window called Task Manager opens.
- In Task Manager, click Processes on the left. If only symbols are visible, move the pointer over them until Processes appears, then click that symbol.
- Under Apps, find Microsoft Edge. Use the main entry with that name, above any pages listed beneath it.
- Right-click Microsoft Edge by clicking it once with the right mouse button.
- Click End task. Wait for Microsoft Edge and the warning to close.
- Close Task Manager by clicking the X in its upper-right corner.
- The next time you open Microsoft Edge, leave any Restore button alone so the warning does not reopen. Keep the suspicious website closed.
- If you installed something, shared information, or let someone control the computer because of the warning, stop following their instructions and use Microsoft's steps for someone who acted on a scam warning.
Expected result: The suspicious warning is no longer on the screen.
