macOS
How to Change the Volume on a Mac
Also available for: Windows 11
What you need: A Mac.
Before you begin: If you want to hear the change, start a video or music first.
- Look at the menu bar, the row of words and icons across the top of the screen. Click the Control Center icon, which looks like two small switches, near the right end of the menu bar, beside the date and time. A panel opens.
- Find the slider labeled Sound. It is a horizontal bar with a round handle.
- Place the pointer on the round handle, hold down the mouse or trackpad button, and move the pointer to the right to make the sound louder or to the left to make it quieter. Release the button when the handle is where you want it.
- Check the slider. The further right the handle is, the louder the sound. If the handle is at the far left, the sound is off. Move the handle to the right to turn the sound back on.
- Click anywhere on the screen outside the panel to close Control Center.
Expected result: The handle stays where you placed it. Any sound that is playing is louder or quieter than before.
