Windows 11
How to Change the Volume on Windows 11
Also available for: macOS
What you need: A Windows 11 computer.
Before you begin: If you want to hear the change, start a video or music first.
- Look at the right end of the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, beside the date and time. Click the small group of icons there, which includes a speaker. A panel called Quick Settings opens above it.
- Find the volume slider in the panel. It is a horizontal bar with a round handle and a speaker icon at its left end.
- Look at the speaker icon at the left end of the slider. If it has an X or a line through it, the sound is muted. Click that speaker icon once. The X or line goes away.
- Place the pointer on the round handle, hold down the left mouse button (or the left side of the touchpad), and move the pointer to the right to make the sound louder or to the left to make it quieter. Release the button when the handle is where you want it.
- Check the handle. The further right it is, the louder the sound. At the far left, there is no sound.
- Click anywhere on the screen outside the panel to close Quick Settings.
Expected result: The handle stays where you placed it and the speaker icon has no X or line. Any sound that is playing is louder or quieter than before.
