How to Check How Much Battery Is Left on a Mac

Also available for: Windows 11

What you need: A MacBook, which is a Mac laptop computer.

  1. Look at the menu bar, the strip along the top of the screen, and find the battery icon on the right side, near the time.
  2. Click the battery icon. A menu opens.
  3. Read the percentage of battery charge shown in the menu, such as 80%. A higher number means more battery is left.
  4. Find the line that begins with Power Source. Power Adapter means the Mac is plugged in. Battery means it is running on its battery.
  5. Click the battery icon again to close the menu.

Expected result: You can read the battery percentage and know whether the Mac is plugged in.
