How to Turn a Website into an App in Safari on a Mac

Also available for: Windows 11

What you need: A Mac with macOS Sonoma 14 or later, Safari, and the address of the website you want to use as an app, such as example.com.

Before you begin: These steps add a new app icon to your Dock for the website you open. The website itself does not change.

  1. Click Finder (the blue smiling face) in the Dock, the row of app icons along the edge of the screen.
  2. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click Go, then Applications.
  3. Click Safari twice quickly to open it.
  4. Click the long address box at the top of the Safari window, type the website address, and press Return. Wait for the website to appear.
  5. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click File, then click Add to Dock….
  6. A box opens with a name for the app, taken from the website. Leave the name as it is and click Add.
  7. Look at the Dock. A new icon with the website's name has been added. Click that icon.

Expected result: The website opens in its own window, with its own small toolbar, and its icon stays in the Dock. Clicking the icon opens the website again.
