How to Give Yourself More Time to Double-Click on a Mac

Also available for: Windows 11

What you need: A Mac with macOS Ventura 13 or later and a mouse or trackpad. A double-click is two quick presses of the mouse or trackpad button in the same place, such as to open a folder. These steps allow a longer pause between the two presses.

  1. Click the Apple menu (the Apple logo) in the upper-left corner of the screen, then click System Settings.
  2. Click Accessibility in the list on the left. If you do not see Accessibility, move the pointer over the list and scroll down. Then click Pointer Control on the right.
  3. Find the slider next to Double-click speed. Place the pointer on its round handle, hold down the mouse or trackpad button, move the handle a little to the left, toward the slow end, then release the button.
  4. Look at the slider. The closer the handle is to the left end, the more time your Mac allows between the two presses. If you want more time, repeat step 3.

Expected result: The handle of the Double-click speed slider is closer to the slow end than before, and your Mac now accepts a longer pause between the two presses of a double-click.
