Windows 11

How to Give Yourself More Time to Double-Click on Windows 11

Also available for: macOS

What you need: A Windows 11 computer with a mouse. A double-click is two quick presses of the left mouse button in the same place, such as to open a folder. These steps allow a longer pause between the two presses.

  1. Click Start (the Windows logo) on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Type Settings, then click Settings in the search results to open it.
  3. Click Bluetooth & devices on the left, then click Mouse on the right.
  4. Scroll down to Related settings, then click Additional mouse settings. A small window called Mouse Properties opens.
  5. At the top of the Mouse Properties window, click the Buttons tab if it is not already showing.
  6. Find the Double-click speed box. Place the pointer on the handle of its Speed slider, hold down the left mouse button, move the handle one small step to the left, toward Slow, then release the button.
  7. Test the new speed. Double-click the small folder picture in the same box by pressing the left mouse button twice, at the pace that is comfortable for you. The folder picture opens.
  8. If the folder picture did not open, repeat steps 6 and 7, moving the handle one more small step toward Slow each time.
  9. When the folder picture opens at your own pace, click OK at the bottom of the Mouse Properties window.

Expected result: The folder picture opened when you double-clicked it at your own pace, and the Mouse Properties window is closed. Windows now accepts that pace as a double-click.
