Windows 11

How to Go to a Website by Typing Its Address in Microsoft Edge on Windows 11

Also available for: macOS

What you need: A Windows 11 computer, Microsoft Edge, and the address of the website you want, such as usa.gov. You can type any website address in the same way.

  1. Click Start (the Windows logo) on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Type Microsoft Edge, then click Microsoft Edge in the search results to open it.
  3. Find the address bar: the long box across the top of the window, in the row below the tabs. Do not use the search box in the middle of the page; it is not the address bar.
  4. Click once inside the address bar. Any writing already in it becomes highlighted.
  5. Type the website address. What you type replaces the highlighted writing. If a list of suggestions appears below the box, keep typing the whole address.
  6. Check the address in the box letter by letter. Make sure it has no spaces and that the dot before the ending, such as .gov, is there.
  7. Press the Enter key.

Expected result: The website opens in Microsoft Edge, and its address appears in the address bar at the top.
