How to Save a Document in the Documents Folder on Windows 11
Also available for: macOS
What you need: A Windows 11 computer. These steps use Notepad, which is included with Windows, to type a short note and save it in Documents.
- Click Start (the Windows logo) on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
- Type Notepad, then click Notepad in the search results to open it.
- At the top of the Notepad window, click File, then click New tab. A blank page opens. Notepad can show writing from an earlier visit, so this gives you a clean page.
- Click in the large white area below the tabs and type a few words, such as Shopping list: milk, bread.
- Click File again, then click Save as. A window titled Save as opens.
- In the list on the left side of the Save as window, click Documents.
- Near the bottom of the window, click the File name box. Click it three times quickly to highlight all the text in it, then type a name, such as Shopping list. Notepad adds the ending .txt for you.
- Click Save at the bottom right of the window.
Expected result: The Save as window closes, and the name you chose appears on the tab at the top of the Notepad window. The document is saved in Documents.
