Windows 11
How to Open a File You Saved on Windows 11
Also available for: macOS
What you need: A Windows 11 computer, the name of a file you saved, and the name of the folder you saved it in, such as the document from How to Save a Document in the Documents Folder on Windows 11. If you do not remember the folder, first use How to Search for a File by Name on Windows 11.
- Click Start (the Windows logo) on the taskbar at the bottom of the screen.
- Type File Explorer, then click File Explorer in the search results to open it.
- Click the folder containing your file, such as Documents, on the left. To open a folder inside it, double-click that folder by clicking twice quickly. Continue until you see your file.
- Look through the names for your file. Windows may hide the ending of a name, such as .txt. Scroll down to see more files.
- Double-click the file by clicking its name twice quickly. Wait a few seconds for it to open.
Expected result: The file opens in its own window, and its name appears at the top of that window.
